Hi,

Does anyone know of a vmware image which has been made available, which has Centreon installed and configured with all the necessary plugins and patches installed?

I am really getting frustrated with trying to get this product setup without any english documentation and knowledge of Centreon. I think the product looks great but I have been trying for 2 weeks now to get the reports and the Oreon views working - no luck

Thnx

I am not aware of one, what kind of problems are you having with reports/views?

jduplessis

Hi there

Firstly, I am very new to the Nagios / Centreon area. So I may be making some very stupid mistakes.......definately!!! :)

Secondly, I followed the documentation on the following link to install Oreon and nagios

Everything seems to be up and running, however,I do not get any RRD graphs within the Oreon Views section (I am not sure about how one goes about getting these graphs to work correctly - even used oreon graph plugins) I have followed almost every post on this forum - no luck

Thirdly, My reporting views seems to go into a pending state on the graph every few hours. I think this has something to do with cron, but not sure....

I you have any documentation which you followed to setup you deployment- It would be greatly appreciated as I am almost as wits end :)

Sorry - forgot about one thing - During the install.sh script , I got no errors

I also got no errors with the finalization through the web frontend.

Do you perhaps have a document which explains how ODS works and where it fits into the whole Centreon solution. I noticed that Centreon 1.4.1 RC3 does not have things like perfparse?

sgrynd
08-06-2007, 10:13 PM
I don't have any further documentation then what is around the site just yet, but will be creating some before too long as the company I am putting this together for requested a DR doc. When that is done I will be happy to share.

It has been almost a year since I worked with Oreon (my last setup) so I am just getting back into it, last install I did ODS wasn't around so I am learning now. As soon as I get a couple working I will share my results which may help you.

Hi, i made a Vmware image based on Centreon 1.4Rc3 and Debian Etch.
Graphs are ok, and all works fine.
I'll upload it later when i'll find time to finalise it.

Thanks :-)
I upgrade it this morning with 1.4.1 stable.

I need to make some change, because i use it at work (change passwords, delete hosts and services, write a little tutorial).

I'll try to do it sooner as possible.

have a good day ;)

Hi,

Upload is in progress.
You'll find this here:

http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/1002

I think upload we'll be finished at 13h00 (1PM) today.

Please give me feedback on this (it's my first published appliance).

Thanks 8)

Brilliant - Thanks a million - will probably take a while for me to download from South Africa (Bandwidth here is verybad) :)

Thanks for the effort

Will give you feedback on your "first" appliance :)

Maybe you should get the Centreon admins to post this vmware link on the main Centreon website - Would be good to notify them and get more people to try Centreon without all the hastles of setting it up :) Just an idea

smarechal

Thanks for feedback.
Upload is not complete yet (45 min remaning).
Wait 2 hours (because upload has failed one time).

Edit: Upload is complete, enjoy :-)

What keyboard alyout are you using - none of my keys are correctly mapped

smarechal
08-10-2007, 10:41 AM
Yes it's normal, i use azerty not qwerty.

You can try this command:

dpkg-reconfigure console-data

Choose your configuration.

Running Vmware 6.0

Looks like the network does not work at all. only loopback interface seeing packets - Eth1 not seeing anything, even after interface file changes and reboot.

Will look into this and let you know what the fix is

smarechal
08-10-2007, 11:37 AM
It's normal because you create a new uid a first boot.

Note: if you change the uid at first boot, you'll need to reconfigure the network (and search on VmWare forums), because MAC Address will change and eth0 will be down.

Your MAC address on host an virtual machine are not the same if you create a new uid.

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 11:41 AM
I kept the UID the same - this should work. but it does not, so something on vmware 6 is changing even though I am keeping the UID. Will read up on vmware site :)

smarechal
08-10-2007, 11:42 AM
Strange, i've tested it on VmWare Workstation 6 and Vmware Server 1.03.

good luck :-)

Edit: notifications are ok, it was my fault, bad configuration on a service ...

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 11:44 AM
I set it up to Keep UID, will boot with option Always-keep and see if it makes a difference

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 11:48 AM
You need to setup VMware workstation to ALWAYS-KEEP UID otherwise it does change after first boot :) Strange

:)

smarechal
08-10-2007, 11:52 AM
thanks for feedback;)

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 11:55 AM
No problem :)

Can you Update Vmware site to reflect this for the ALWAYS-KEEP?

smarechal
08-10-2007, 11:59 AM
Yes i'll do it soon

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 12:00 PM
For anyone who wants to know - The default Centreon admin language on this image is french

To change it to english after initial login to Centreon webpage

Goto - Options - Mon Compte (My Account) - Langue principale (Default Lang) = fr and change this to en

This will reflect immediately on the website

smarechal
08-10-2007, 12:06 PM
i made change for language on vmware site. ;)

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 12:08 PM
Will test this image over the weekend and let you know of any issues I might come across

Once again - Thanks for the image :)

smarechal
08-10-2007, 12:10 PM
You're welcome.
It was so difficult for me to make Centreon working, it's normal to share it.

Have a good week-end :-)

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 12:27 PM
Quick question - on the default image you have a test host. I have changed the ip address to the local machine.

I now get : /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_graph_traffic.pl: "Option S requires an argument"

Can you advise?

smarechal
08-10-2007, 12:40 PM
This host is not valid.
I couldn't leave hosts, hosts groups and contact empty, because Nagios can't start correctly.
You have to delete all tests, and make yours ;) and sometimes it's not very easy.

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 12:40 PM
Check_Host_Alive does also not seem to exist in the plugins directory - HAs it been replaced with a centreon plugin?

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 12:41 PM
hahaha - soz :D

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 12:43 PM
Another stupid question: what is the function of "Move Export Files" during installation of nagios configuration?

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 01:33 PM
I think I may have picked up something - I cannot seem to see any of the new Centreon plugins

smarechal
08-10-2007, 01:50 PM
They are in /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/ ;)

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 02:06 PM
Cool - rewrote the Check_graph_uptime command and replaced it with Check_Centreon_Graph_uptime command and it seems to be working......just waiting for the graphs to show data as i am now getting the graph (Orien views)

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 02:07 PM
Noticed that Nagios Status map tries to get data from 10.1.10.9?

smarechal
08-10-2007, 02:22 PM
Oups, yes.
You need to go to options-> general options->Nagios Status Map
Set the correct Ip.
Nagios user for Nagios Status Map CGI: nagiosadmin
Password: admin

I forgot this module :D

I think you can put 127.0.0.1 for the ip (not tested, but i think it's easier)

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 02:30 PM
:) haha cool

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 02:31 PM
ok, now that I have everything working. I have rrd graphs but now data. Would it be possible to take me though generating the data for these graphs?

jduplessis
08-10-2007, 02:46 PM
No worries - seems like I am now getting graphing data :D

smarechal
08-10-2007, 05:32 PM

Hi Alfie,

Are you using the Vmware image supplied by smarechal?

jduplessis
08-11-2007, 10:47 AM
Quick question Smarchal - Seems like your image has the same problem my Debian install had - Under reporting, I get all hosts as "undertermined" for reporting status. I know this has something to do with the cron, however I never got to fix it before using your image :) Any ideas?

smarechal
08-11-2007, 11:01 AM
I'm going to connect to my work to see if i've got the same problem but i don't think.

jduplessis
08-11-2007, 11:16 AM
There are a few people having this problem on the forum - All the senior Centreon support guys have responded with something around the cron which does not work correctly - However, it is all in French (a language i do not understand :D ) google translate does not translate it very well either :)

jduplessis
08-11-2007, 11:17 AM

Do you have to configure any type of retention data per host? When I reboot, it starts to give me "UP" status - only seems to last for about 12 hours and then it goes back to "undetermined"

Hi Alfie,

Are you using the Vmware image supplied by smarechal?

yes, here is what i get http://img76.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oreonyq3.jpg

what is tuposed to be on that combo box? do I need to have certain services in order to make graphs?

smarechal

Yes you have to configure your service for graph

smarechal
08-12-2007, 12:29 PM
I'm going to upload a new image with NTOP and PHP-weathermap.
there is a host (localhost) with graph for example.

Uploaded :-)

Changelog 1.1:
Add:
-Ntop Module (to start ntop: open a console in root -> /etc/init.d/ntop start)
Update:
-NagiosStatusMap 1.0 => 1.1
Modify:
-Add a test service with graph ok for example

jduplessis
08-13-2007, 09:28 AM
Brilliant - Thanks

Got Centreon 1.4 RC3 to work FIRST TIME ROUND on Opensuse 10.2, this weekend. Looks like it works if you download the perl modules using cpan and not the standard modules which ship with the dvd's. I have not had time to configure nrpe or nagios status map - yet. I will write up a how to doc or post the vmware image as soon as I have some time this week :)

jduplessis
08-13-2007, 09:35 AM
What is the easiest way of moving the Centreon host/service/ notification configuration from an older vmware image to a newer image?

smarechal
08-13-2007, 10:01 AM
Hi,

I think you have to copy /etc/nagios2/
Here is all of the config files (but need confirmation).

A question: why do you want to use OpenSuse for Centreon? i've made a server at work (for GLPI / OCS) with OpenSuse.
When the new server will arrive (It's a workstation today), i'll install Debian because it's quickier than OpenSuse (I like OpenSuse to, but for Home :-) )

alfie
08-13-2007, 11:07 AM

Thankx

We use a lot of Opensuse in the environment :) Got the skills inhouse!!!

We are also a Novell partner - So Suse is our preferred OS for servers :)

But, I personally prefer Debian because of the speed and ease of use - So I will stick to the Debian install at the end of the day :D and help out with the testing of your VMware images when you require :)

Hi jduplessis,

Is it hard to do?

jduplessis

Very very easy to setup - I think there may be a .deb file for the nrpe plugin install and setup - will check.

Looks like there is one for Deb Woody

Check out Groundwork opensource - they have a few very nice, new plugins for nrpe

To load the agent on the W2k server takes about a minute and the service is very very stable (Even on unstable servers:) - like mine)

Status map might not always work correctly in the Debian Centreon Vmware 1.1 image.

To correct this goto

Options - Centreon - General Options - Nagios Status Map

The current entry is as follows

http://Centreon/nagios2/cgi-bin/statusmap.cgi

Change "Centreon" to reflect either the IP address or loopback address of the Nagios vmware server

Anyone know how to convert this VMware image to run under Xen opensource? I have tried using the qemu-img utility per the numerous guides and the machine boots but fails saying "Waiting on root filesystem" ??? Alternately, could you post a build guide for your VMware image so that I can build a Xen image myself, which I'll happily share?

I see there is a site which claims to have a tool which does all the hard work for you - converting between images - and they seem to have an opensource version of it as well

Thanks for the tip - I've seen that and it looks great but requires Xen 3.0.4 and we use Xen 3.0.3 because we're using RHEL5. The commercial version allows migration to different physical machines but AFAIK it doesn't have any tool for importing or converting the VMware vmdk images to QEMU. :(

Have you considered using rbuilder online? As I understand it, their online system allows you to create builds for (practically) every VM and architecture combination from a single image in one interface, online, and for free...

I'd be happy to contribute to such an endeavor. The generated images also include an appliance management GUI which provides package management and basic network configuration. I am using a few appliances built on rpath already.

Edit: In fact I've created a Centreon project there now

I followed all the instructions and the software is great, but after about 15 minutes of runtime, I see that the VM guest OS says there is Ext3 filesystem error.

How do I fix this? Automatic file system checking fails, and after an manual fsck, the system doesn't start up as it can't find /sbin/init as the inode is gone.

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I never had this problem.
Is your host server disk ok?
