  • Installation on Ubuntu Server 7.04

Has anyone successfully been able to install and configure on Ubunut Server? I have rebuilt my ubuntu server 3 times with centreon and i keep getting the same thing. I can get it installed, and things seems to be working, except for when adding new hosts. I can add them and the services, but they are not listed in the monitoring section. Shouldn't they be there automatiucally after listing them as a host and what service to listen to?

    Thnaks in advance...

i'm not sure to understand your problem.. so have you generate nagios file ? (Config -> Nagios -> generate)

have you enable snmpd on your host client ?

So after i install it, I have to generate a ngios file, even though nagios is installed? I am confused. I thought centreon was just a front end to configure nagios? If I add hosts, I can see them, but then how to they get in to the "monitoring" section? Only local host is listed... This seems like a great product, but is there any formal documemtation in english , like a manual or admin guide?

Yes, centreon is a front end for nagios. When you add host and service on Centreon, you must generate a nagios File and reload nagios service. This process (to generate nagios file) is manualy.

I have done this and they are listed under Configuration>Hosts
          but not Monitoring>hosts

            I can do an snmpwalk -v 1 -c *communityname* 10.10.1.10

and it kicks back in the correct info form the centreon box. What am I missing for hosts to show up in the monitoring section?

After you add your hosts/services through the Centreon front end you have to goto Configuration > Nagios.

From there set the following to yes:
              Run Nagios debug
              Run Optimissation test
              Move Export Files
              Restart Nagios

if nagios is already running select reload, if it is not running or you are unsure select restart.

Then hit export and check the output for errors.

As for documentation it is a bit sketchy, but I have good luck with using google translate http://translate.google.com enter the url of the forum or thread and select french to enlish and have a go.

everything checks out fine, there were duplicates in my "generic-host" for the config, but I remoevd them and reran it and there are no errors now. BUT nothing is showing up in the monitors hosts section except for the local host. How do they show in in monitoring? Just add the config for the host, the the snmp on the host, and then they show up automatically?

                Here is what I did:

                Added host in configuration>host
set snmp community name and version

then exported and ran the config
                evertything check out
configured the host for the community and version

even ran the snmpwalk from the centreon server to make sure they are communicating, they are...

nothing in monitoring hosts except local host (which is there by default)

Everything checks out fine, but yet no hosts or services listed under monitoring. My host has snmp community and traps set v1.

Here is somehting odd. When I restart the nagios2 service manually, I get tons of errors, but when I do it with centreon, I get none. I have a feeeling that nagios and centreon are not cumminicating properly. Here is the log from nagios.

I can pretty much confirm that the install instructions for Dapper Ubuntu do not work (http://wiki.oreon-project.org/index....reon1.4-dapper) no the ones for etch on Ubuntu Server 7.04 - Fiesty Fawn. I have built and rebuilt my machine 6 times (virtual server)

I really want this to work. This is such a nice app, nice interface and excellent front end for an awesome app. If I can't get this working I have to stick with just plain old nagios, or wait until groundworks comes out with a debein version. honestly I like this interface a lot....

It sounds like Centreon isn't seeing your files, check the file path settings in:
Configuration > Nagios > Nagios CFG
Options > General Options > Nagios

it seems to be working now, because the object cache was not set in the oreon config by the installer. I had to dig for it.

                          its: /var/cache/nagios2

I can add a host, and see it being monitored now. But one thing I noticed, when I restart the nagios2 service (/etc/init.d/nagios2 restart) I get :

                          * Restarting nagios2 monitoring daemon nagios2
                          eval: 1: /var/cache/nagios2/: Permission denied

why is this? I have used sudo command, and ran as root and still it says this...

I hate to say it, but I am giving up on centreon. I have wasted countless hours trying to get it to work with Ubuntu Server. Lack of English documentation and lack of Ubuntu specific docs have forced me to just go back to configuring nagios manually. The Debian and Ubuntu docs that do exist are wrong. I have built and rebuilt an Ubuntu server about 10 times, each with a little more success than the previous, but if its not one thing that is wrong, it is another. Paths, graphs, images, are wrong in the wiki for Debian and Ubuntu. I can add hosts, and monitor to see if they are alive, but thats about it. hopefully as this project progresses more it will include Ubuntu specific docs. Until then, good luck.
